Wedding Masai Mara

The venue: Masai Mara

Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains in Kenya, the Masai Mara boasts 1,672 sq. kilometers of unspoilt wilderness. It offers the best game and bird-viewing not only in Kenya, but anywhere in Africa. The views across the rolling golden grasslands studded with acacia trees, rivers and forests are dazzling, the sense of space overwhelming. Throughout the year the Masai Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of colour and life. Most stunning of all are the months between July and October, when the savannah teems with animals during the Great Wildebeest Migration. Millions of wildebeest gather in the Masai Mara in one of the natural wonders of the world. Staying in one of the Governors’ Camp properties puts you right in the heart of the action, closer than anyone else to its incredible sights and sounds.

Getting married in the Masai Mara at one of the lodges of the Governors Camp Collections will be a magical moment when you exchange your vows at the river bank or on the plains in the Mara. The lodges and camps:

Little Governors’ Camp is a luxury safari camp located on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp is intimate in character, with just 17 luxury en-suite tents tucked around a large watering hole that teems with both birds and wildlife. The camp is approached by a boat ride across the Mara River, then an escorted walk through the riverine forest. Vehicles are left on the far river bank, and the camp is therefore quiet and undisturbed. The guest tents at Little Governors’  have wooden decks with large verandahs for guests to enjoy the constant game activity that takes place around the natural watering hole at the camp. All Governors’ properties are unfenced, and at Little Governors’ there is a resident family of warthogs that wander freely through the camp. Guests may need to make way for elephants which sometimes visit the camp at lunch time. We have recently installed a solar power system in camp and Little Governors Camp is now running on 100% solar power. Little Governors Camp has been awarded a Gold Eco-Rating from Eco Tourism Kenya due to our sustainable practices in place in camp.

The setting is magical. So much so that almost a century ago it was reserved, exclusively, for Kenya’s colonial Governors. Governors’ Camp nestles in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, it’s waters teeming with bird-life, hippo and crocodile, in the heart of Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve.

Some of the 37 tents line the riverbank, tucked into the forest they enjoy uninterrupted views over the Mara River, others have views across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara. Created in 1972 Governors’ Camp set new standards in luxury for a tented camp. Today it’s still Africa’s best.

Everything is under canvas, all tents have en-suit bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flushing toilets. There is a bar tent with deck overlooking the Mara River and dinning tent with views over the plains.

The camp for those who want that extra bit of luxury. Governors’ IL Moran Camp is small and intimate, with added touches that make this the top of the range safari. IL Moran is widely regarded as the premiere camp in the Masai Mara.
Hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest, are just 10 tents. They line the winding banks of the Mara River. You’ll be the personal guest of the manager, who’ll look after all your needs.

The camp is situated along the banks of the Mara River, right in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, with the best game viewing right on your doorstep. Governors Il Moran Camp has been awarded a Silver Eco Rating by Eco Tourism Kenya for our environmental practices both in camp and with our neighbourng community.
